Welcome to Orlando!
 The city of Orlando is the county seat of Orange County, Florida. The city is well known for the tourist attractions in the area, particularly the nearby Walt Disney World Resort, which is in the Reedy Creek Improvement District . Other area attractions include SeaWorld and Universal Orlando Resort. Despite being far from the main tourist attractions, downtown Orlando has recently seen much redevelopment, with many more projects currently under construction or planned. One of the oldest attractions in this area is Gatorland. Orlando sees an estimated 52 million tourists a year. Orlando is the 2nd largest city in the country for number of hotel rooms. GreenWorks Orlando Initiatives Provide Opportunity for Green Jobs,
Energy Independence, Emissions Reductions

Orlando, FL – …Mayor Buddy Dyer called on President-elect Obama and the incoming Congress to invest stimulus dollars in local climate action as a quick and effective way to create new green jobs, revitalize the economy and promote energy independence.

“We were pleased that during his campaign, President-elect Obama indicated support for investment in energy saving projects to help create jobs and spur economic recovery,” said Mayor Dyer. “We want President-elect Obama and Congress to know that with federal assistance we are ready to put hundreds of Orlando citizens to work in jobs that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and cut greenhouse gas emissions.”

Increasingly, economists are promoting green jobs as key to the country’s economic recovery and long-term growth. The mayor described four projects that could be implemented in the next 12 months if federal funds are made available, including a 600 Kilowatt rooftop solar array system downtown-to increase renewable energy production in Central Florida

MAYOR BUDDY DYER RINGS IN THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH DOWNTOWN ORLANDO TRADITION

WHAT:  Mayor Buddy Dyer invites Orlando residents to join him as he puts the finishing touches on Downtown’s holiday decorations. Holiday Lights Orlando has become a tradition for many families, Downtown businesses and residents. The highlight of the evening will be the lighting of the majestic 33-foot Douglas Fir Christmas Tree, adorned with 12,000 energy efficient LED lights.

In addition to the spectacular tree lighting ceremony, festivities will include a variety of musical entertainment, the lighting of a menorah and a free sampling of holiday treats.

Admission to Holiday Lights Orlando is free.
 
TOY DRIVE: In the spirit of holiday giving, the City has teamed up with Johnny and Jayde of XL106.7 to support the Baby DJ Fund. Unwrapped toys collected at the event will be distributed by XL 106.7 to local families who are unable to provide their children with toys for the holidays.
