Mayor Dyer Announces “Orlando Stops” Locations of First Red Light Cameras Unveiled
WHAT: Mayor Buddy Dyer will announce “Orlando Stops,” the City’s red light enforcement system designed to reduce accidents caused by red light running, and unveil the locations of the first ten approaches that will utilize red light cameras.
In December of 2007, the Orlando City Council passed the Ordinance amending Chapter 5 of the City Code to include Article III, ”Red Light Infractions.” Since the City of Orlando adopted a civil enforcement process for red light signal violations, no points will be assessed against the vehicle owner’s record. A civil fine in the amount of $125.00 will be assessed for the first two violations and a civil fine in the amount of $250.00 will be assessed for the third and any subsequent violation by the owner in any three year period.
Red light violations are among the most common causes of motor vehicle collisions and often result in fatalities and injuries. In Florida, red light running accounts for at least 100 fatalities and more than 6,300 injuries every year. In 2007, there were more than 525 red light running crashes in the City of Orlando. |

Mayor Dyer Celebrates Re-Opening of Dubsdread Golf Course |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Contact: Carson Chandler, (407) 246 - 2822 Heather Allebaugh, (407) 246 - 3423
WHAT: Legendary golfers…the unofficial WWII officer’s club…and a dispute over gambling are all part of Dubsdread Golf Course’s storied history. A lot has changed in the course’s 84 year history. On Thursday, July 10 Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orlando City Commissioners will celebrate the new course with a re-opening ceremony and tournament.
The festivities will commence with a historic look at the course, christening of the course with a first tee-off and world-renowned rendition of the National Anthem by Broadway star and Orlando resident Davis Gaines.
The renovations raise the difficulty of play with additional yardage, varying elevations and contours in fairways and greens. A new putting green, two short game practice ranges and an aqua driving range with lights have been added to the practice facility.
The renovation of the course was made possible through a public partnership between the City of Orlando, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the St. John’s Water Management District. The golf course was a beneficiary of the need to filter storm water running into Little Lake Fairview and manage runoff from the upcoming widening of Interstate 4. |
